Literacy VIP event at Bet 365

Mrs Belt was delighted to take some of our leading readers from Year 7 to meet HRH Duchess of Cornwall and authors Liz Pichon, Andy Stanton and Bali Rai at the Bet 365 stadium. It was a celebration of Literacy and we were delighted when Joyce Pereira received a certificate in recognition of her contribution to reading at The Discovery Academy.

Mrs Belt chatted with the Duchess and shared some of the strategies we use to encourage reading for pleasure and to improve reading ages. The Duchess also accepted a Discovery Praise Card for Prince Harry and his new fiancée, Meghan Markle, congratulating them on their engagement!

Student London Visit

Last week students from Alpha Academies Trust attended the Houses of Parliament/Buckingham Palace/Downing St as part of our trust Government and politics work. Students from all academies were a credit to our Trust. Their conduct was superb around Parliament and outside Buckingham Palace where they saw Royal family members leave the palace, as well as inside during the Education sessions learning about democracy, voting and the importance of their voice.

Thanks to Mrs Sherwin (Discovery Academy), Mr Harvey (Excel Academy) and Mr Kumar (Birches Head Academy) for their support.

Mr Brandrick

Year 11 Arrangements for Collection of Examination Results

On 23/08/2018 at 10:00 am until 11:30 am

Dear Parent/Carer

We would like to say congratulations to all of our Year 11 students on the success that they have achieved so far during their time at The Discovery Academy.

Collection of results

On Thursday 23rd August 2018, the Academy will be open for students to collect their examination results between 10.00am and 11.30am. Students are to report to the Main Hall. Colleges will be on hand to provide support to students once they have received their results.

If students are unable to collect their results they can be posted to them by sending into the academy a stamped self-addressed envelope. If students would like someone else to collect their results on results day, they will need to send in a letter stating who will be collecting their results and the person will need to bring with them proof of identity.

Wishing all Year 11 students the very best with their future education.

Yours faithfully

Mr S French

Principal
